Even when a student asks a question, I always like to respond with ‘what do you think?’ because I want to hear their logic and build upon that instead of simply giving them a reply. I’ve been frustrated with classes in the past myself, wishing that I had help and that is what I want to provide for my students. I’ve learned to be patient with students; sometimes you just keep talking because the words make sense to you but make no sense to the students. I learned to work with the student’s strengths; if my way of teaching isn’t working I can approach problems in different ways. I have tutored for other academic services as well that teach students outside of a specific subject. This is why i want to become a tutor: to provide my students a way of thinking that stretches beyond the classroom but into the real world.
