Experience

Tutoring Experience: I tutored a student in Chemistry while I was in high school, but my science years are far behind me now. Test Scores: I received a 2060 overall on the SAT, and scored a 4 on the AP English Literature and AP English Language tests. I also received a 4 on the AP Chemistry test and a 5 on the AP Spanish test. Relevant Classes: So far at UCSB I have taken the following courses within the Spanish Department: Spanish 25 (Advanced Composition) Grade: A Spanish 100 (Intro to Spanish Linguistics) Grade: A+ Spanish 119A (Spanish Institutions and Culture) Grade: A- Spanish 102L (Intro to Hispanic Literature Studies) Grade: A Spanish 169 (Literature/Culture of the Spanish Caribbean) Grade: A- Spanish 110A (Spanish Literature) Grade: A- Spanish 101 (American Spanish Linguistics) Grade: B+ Within the Comparative Literature Department, I have taken the following: Comparative Literature 30A (Major Works of European Lit.) Grade: A Comp. Lit. 30B (Major Works of Euro. Lit.) Grade: A Comp. Lit. 30C (Major Works of Euro Lit.) Grade: A Why I want to be a tutor: I have always enjoyed helping others to understand, and my natural patience allows me to ensure that someone thoroughly comprehends what I am attempting to explain to them before moving on. To me, a sound and diverse education is fundamentally important if one wishes to live an open-minded and enriching life, and helping someone along the way to such a life more than makes up for any sort of work involved in the process.

Hobbies

In my free time I enjoy playing and listening to music. I play the guitar, bass guitar and drums and have even tried my hand at writing lyrics a time or to, though I have yet to establish any sort of creative rhythm. Some of my favorite bands include Bright Eyes, Iron & Wine and Death Cab for Cutie. I also enjoy hiking and riding my bike in order to get out and experience nature. Schoolwork and classes consume a large portion of my day, but I still do my best to take a break once in a while to relax.
